Discover the architecture, history and culture of Ghana’s capital city on a 3-hour tour of Accra. Visit the Danish, Dutch and Jamestown neighborhoods that make up this bustling city, and admire pre-colonial buildings while learning about the city’s history and heritage. Follow a guide through the streets, and discover many of the stately homes and colonial mansions that form an important part of Accra’s colorful past. The group size is limited to 12 people on this small-group tour, ensuring personalized attention from a guide.

Start your walking tour by meeting your guide at the city’s Ussher Fort, built in the 17th century by the Dutch to enforce their stronghold in the area. Then, take a stroll with your group to the area that was first colonized by European settlers, the Danish and Dutch neighborhoods, to observe the beauty and elegance of the European-style architecture that abounds. See the many grand buildings and stately homes once used by the city’s first colonizers.

Continue onward to Accra’s so-called English neighborhood, otherwise known as Jamestown. The majority of the English officials and staff who managed the colony lived and worked in Jamestown during the 19th century, a turbulent time in the country’s history. Admire the most impressive buildings with your guide, and hear about their past.

Use public transport to travel to the Ga-Mashie area of Jamestown and observe the international influences still visible in Accra today. The beautiful colonial buildings here form an important part of the city’s cultural heritage, and it’s the ideal place to get snap-happy with your camera!

Make your way to your next photo stop: the Sea View Hotel. As the oldest hotel in Accra, the establishment is steeped in colonial and post-colonial history. Hear stories about the historical building’s chequered past before viewing more impressive architecture in the area. Admire buildings such as Palladium Hall, a place of great significance in Accra’s political past.

Your tour then finishes at the Accra arena.
